LONG POEM BOOKS AND VIDEOS
Jeff Johnston has released another short book of long poems in
LARGE PRINT entitled MOMENTS OF TIME
Thank you for picking up this book and spending your time with my moments.
I write organically and therefore am not ever sure where my free-flowing words will go. I have no plan. No outline. No system. What I do have is time. No matter where I am at any moment, the words will come alive. Something I see, or hear, or envision, and boom! They are born in my mind. I write on my phone and until I am inputting, they circle constantly in my head, seeking release.
Time is something we all share. No matter income bracket, place of birth, ancestry, or who we may know, we all have the same twenty-four hours in a day.
Time. The constant.
May your time be pleasant with the awareness we all have available to us.
Until next time…

SAMPLE POEM FROM MOMENTS OF TIME
9:00 In Nashville
Its nine o'clock In Nashville Ten o'clock right here The moon and clouds Are beautiful I close my eyes And disappear Do you get to see The sky at night My dear Do you always know That we are far Yet always near Time is a conundrum Clock time Guides our days But inside Being No time Finds truth in Many ways |
Tap into the light It's there forever more Sometimes you may have to Walk through one more door Oh it can be daunting The past will hunt You down The future will produce A chalkboard finger sound But In this exact moment Where you and I Partake Life is exponential In all that we will make |
Hold yourself up With hands from All around and Know that they are there When life is falling down Hear the quiet whispers Of laughter you recall Soon it will be present And shining for us all Breathe it in so deeply Exhale a cleansing pace This then is new safety We all give awesome face Oh just you imagine Then soon it will be clear Joy and happy fun Is for all of us My dear... |
Jeff Johnston has released another book of long poems entitled VACATED ROOMS.
"Thank you for picking up this book. I hope you and yours are well. As I write this introduction, the Coronavirus is alive and changing the world we knew. Once again “history” is being made. But I believe history is always being made. Our world is our perception, and as our thoughts vacillate between a darkness and a lightness, or vice versa, “history” is made. We are the creators. We are the historians. We are the ones that speak. Whatever language we may use. I write poetry. Peace love and light…"

SAMPLE POEM FROM: VACATED ROOMS
I Ponder
How many walls Have I leaned up against Pondering my next move Wondering if the plan I have now Needs to be rearranged... Modified... Scrapped... Forgotten... Or someday looking back Will I realize I was at a tipping point And with wisdom Continued on... Am I currently In a plan? And if so Do I remember What exactly it is... When it started... Do I see "The writing on the wall" Or is it unclear Due to weathering times... Graffiti or Enlightenment? So many times I believe we let Circumstances Decide our next move... |
But... Are the circumstances Results of a focused Vision And the universe Responding To who we truly are being? "Live and learn" "This too shall pass" "Mindfulness" "Use the force" "Another day another dollar" "Que Sera Sera" Walls... To lean on To go around To stop forward movement To build strength To bust through To protect... From what? In this moment As I lean against This wall... I ponder... |

The Sound
The sound of rain Infiltrates... Modern man Incubates... Answers are written In a language that Side by side Is not understood... Where do we go Where our mind and body May become alive And others do not Become bees in a hive... Defending their queen With no logical base Breaking the mirror We disfigure the face Past and present Racing to explain This magical moment As we ride on this train... Stations go by In the blink of an eye And still we sit down And wonder why... Why... Now let us not pretend That what we all do Has got a meaningful end... |
We are struggling In water only up To our knees... And yet... Brother please Is broadcast daily Amongst those in the street Seeking and searching Maybe another to meet... And then... Growing and learning And massaging a life To join with some jelly A husband and wife... When we are speaking Who hears our words People malignant As oil drenched birds... Oh we mean well Yes? And yet... A call a text a message Is generated And all at once Discombobulated... The end The beginning? |
Sorcerer's brew May vilify the likes Of a me and a you... Whispers on the wind Will explain what to do... Stars misaligned To create a big dipper But will anyone ever Fit the glass slipper? Lo and behold The stories are written A boy and a girl Who both become smitten Seasons will fall Behind the curtain And luxury boxes Will become uncertain Though the valley Will all at once be a flood Vampires exist On one another's blood... Stake a claim But don't cross the track A silver bullet May be back in black A hand reaches out Attached to a freak Stealing your jar Is it time to speak? |

Outside Sensations
I sit in my room Watching the sun slowly set The outside sensations Trying hard not to forget The sound of a bird or A car passing by The smell of cutgrass The buzz of a fly The feel of the breeze On my skin, through my hair The looks on the faces of People without a care A baby crying Going by in a stroller A man playing music To earn him a dollar The honk of a horn The crosswalk timer The smells that emit From an old greasy diner |
The sounds of the fans At a sporting event The righteous few Claiming we should repent The fumes from the bus That’s going uptown The laughter that comes From the corner street clown The sights that you see From just people watching The high school band Friday night marching The sound of a puddle Being splashed by a child The sound of a dog Running fast and wild The simple colors of A cross streetlight The angry pedestrian Who’s picking a fight |
The neon signs Blazing into our view The kitchen aroma Of grandmother’s stew The chill in the air As the sun fades away The church door opens To the people that pray Someday soon When I’m leaving this place The outside sensations I will wholly embrace I will try and remember To enjoy all that’s there Behind these four walls I am so unaware |
Jeff Johnston has released his next book of long poems: it's not black and white
"It seems to me that the older I get, the more the world becomes grey…or cloudy…or opaque…none the less…
it’s not black and white…if it ever was.
Absolutes of any sort seem to fade away.
What may be certain on a Tuesday is completely invalid by the following weekend.
I believe that having an open mind can be related to not seeing everything, or anything, as black and white.
Society, parents, schools, employers, and many more have been telling me that the world and universe I live in are indeed black and white.
I respectively disagree.
Here are some musings for your enjoyment."

Randomness
life… life is… life is so… life is so random… we move here and there we work somewhere… we travel this road or that sometimes never looking back… we meet this person we rub shoulders with another… we cross a room or a country to say hello to someone that has caught our eye… we listen to words spoken around us… some we hear some we don’t some we won’t… |
what we take away some times we don’t have a say… life is so random… paths crossing lives mingling day time and night… life is so random… and yet we seek order… we seek straight lines… we seek sense of it all… we seek our call… life is so random… life is so… life is… life… |
